10 year high school reunion

david and i actually got all dressed up and hit the town this past saturday night for my much anticipated 10 year high school reunion. i was a little nervous about going, but i sucked it up and went anyway, and thankfully had a really great time. of course david being the social butterfly that he is, and having graduated the year before me, probably remembered and talked to more people than i did!! at least he wasn't bored all night. we started that morning off with a breakfast/playdate at our house including jessie and her family, lisa and her family, and maggie and her family, the latter of which sucks because she never showed:( we still had a great time though and ate way to much food while laughing over the yearbooks and reminiscing about funny things that happened while we were growing up. i can't believe it has been ten years already, and i have been friends with lisa for more than double that amount of time. the kids didn't seem to mind our trip down memory lane, as they were all busy playing together and ransacking all the toys. riley had a great time chasing brody around, she thought kaitlin was hilarious, and tried to be a little mommy to baby tiernan: who is close to the same size as her anyway :) the actual reunion didn't start till saturday night at 8pm downtown . . . which was actually a lot of fun. i'm so glad jessie and kevin came into town for it, it was also great to see shannon, erica, maggie, minda, joe, and a ton of other people. especially the grant kids well represented by jenn, conner, nick, and others already mentioned :) it was obviously great to see everyone, what they are up to, who got married, who has kids, and all that; but the reunion would have been even better had more people shown up. what are you gonna do?? but i am definitely in for the 20 year :)

the lil' fish

riley just successfully completed her second year of parent & child swim class!!! yeah riley!! she did great this year, so much better than last year. she loves getting in the water, and mommy got a little sunshine as well. she was so excited to swim everyday she would get really impatient and cry waiting for the other class to finish up, so we stopped arriving early. then she became so impatient she wouldn't even wait for me to take off my shorts to get into the water. she would say "bye bye mom!" and grab one of our swim teachers by the hand and lead them into the water. little miss independent i guess. . . which for me is both good and bad. she learned how to put her face in the water, blow big bubbles, and go surfing on the big fish. she learned how to count to three and jump in the water, and to sit on the edge of the pool and kick. her favorite swim class songs were "the wheels on the bus," "the hokey pokey," and of course "motorboat motorboat." she had a blast playing with the other kids, especially anthony, sara's son. riley and anthony have had a few playdates before but became great friends during swim class, unless of course it came to sharing duckies. that is where miss riley jane draws the line. she had so much fun and was so comfortable in the water our swim instructors nicknamed her "the lil' fish" and referred to her as "the movie star" everyday we arrived to swim class with our shades on :) we are excited for the next time, and hopefully riley and anthony will get to be in class together again, it's always nice to share fun in the sun!! everyday after swim class riley would be incredibly hungry so we would go eat lunch at school with tiff, gabe, abbi, elli, miranda, maria, and anthony where riley would inhale the lunch given by the school for thier summer program. riley liked their cheeseburgers so much she tried stealing some off of gabe's and abbi's plates. but they forgave her because riley has great cousins! abbi, elli, and miranda had a great time chasing and playing with riley and anthony everyday after swim class and lunch. they are going to grow up to be great babysitters. after lunch we would head home for riley to nap for at least two hours! which has been a rarity her entire life. i wonder what i can do to tucker her out now that swim class is over? i also wanted to say a big thank you to nicole for taking great pictures for me on the last day of swim class . . . she just so happened to be in town visiting so i couldn't have asked for better timing! enjoy and thanks for reading about us :)

riley's playland

so riley is getting older now, and really enjoying playing out in the yard. we have been collecting a rather impressive amount of outside toys thru tiffany, and david's cousin lisa, generously donating most of them, although we did breakdown and purchase a few things ourself. riley is loving it, but was getting some bug bites while playing in the grass, so i came up with the brillant idea of making a mulch bed where riley can have all of her toys and play without getting bit up too much. and that way we wouldn't have to move everything to mow all the time. needless to say my quick weekend project turned into more like a week long project that took double the time, the money, and the work. which david took the brunt of, silly me :) he had to till up the yard, dig out a bunch of dirt, which we had to do something with ( i will post those pics as soon as we get done with that project, caused by this project) then lay sod and mulch and yada yada yada. so i thought you all might be interested in seeing what we have been up to, and why we have probably been to busy to chit chat the past few weeks, so no we haven't been avoiding you . . . i swear!

back from our softball trip

hey everyone !!!

we just got back from an exciting weekend of fun in the sun !!! we packed up half the house for david, riley, and myself to road trip to ohio this past weekend. david's union softball team had a big softball tournament there this past weekend with teams from all over the country. riely did great for her first long road trip. we were loaded up with good snacks, books, toys, and we even caved and watched a few movies on the way as well. david was way excited for a whole weekend of softball and his team won 2 and lost 2, since it was double elimination their last game was on saturday night. david was pretty disappointed, but they won 1 more game than they did last year, so at least they improved. they all actually played well, including david, who of course thinks he should have done better:) he played shortstop where he was part of a great double play and made great contact with the ball while up to bat, unfortunately it was just right to the players most of the time. despite his desire to be mvp all weekend, david at least had fun while playing one of his favorite sports all weekend long. riley of course had a great time watching daddy and his friends play ball and was clapping and yelling "yeah daddy" even when daddy wasn't up to bat. but hey at least she has good spirit! it was a scorching weekend, but we tried to keep cool by playing in the sprinklers, filling up on yummy sno cones, and hanging out in the small amount of shade available. riley and i also had a great time swimming and playing with new friends back at the hotel between games. our hotel was 18 stories high and we were on the 15th floor, which riley didn't really appreciate since she did not like the elevator ride. she had a great time playing with the luggage cart though. and actually before all the softball started we got to go visit with our ohio friends mike and stacy, and their adorable little girl, leah, who riley had a great time playing and teaching her to yell new words like "stop!". it was a quick trip full of a lot of fun, but next year we may have to go out a few days early and do some touristy things while we are there . . . nothing like a good amusement park to tucker everyone out. will write more soon . . .

catching up with technology

hey everybody -
so this is the miller attempt to catch up with technology and keep in touch with all of our family and friends at the same time. it will be nice for david and i to include all of our long distance buds in riley's life, and to keep up with everyone else as well. thanks to josh and anne for gently nudging us into the growing trend of the fascinating world of blogging. we have many friends and family who are pros at this by now, but dare I say we were the slightest bit intimidated at the ease and the amount of time running an blog page would require. we couldn't have been more wrong, it's pretty easy, and so far a lot of fun as well. the hardest part was deciding on a name . . . being the dork that i am i spent a good chunk of time trying to come up with a cool anagram of all our names for the title, but the v in david keeps throwing me for a loop.
we aren't all that interesting and exciting to post something new every week, but here is what has been going on in our life in past few months. we had a great trip out to colorado to visit with josh, anne, hadley, tom, and janet and probably couldn't have squeezed much more fun in while we were there. my friend nicole also met us there for the weekend, as it is a nice halfway point for us to have the opportunity to spend time together. we did so many fun things like swimming, the denver zoo, build-a-bear for the first time ever, a rockies game, and riley and hadley's first taste of janet's amazing blueberry pie. not to mention loads of good food and tons of playtime for riley and hadley in between all of that fun.
we are taking another trip soon to ohio, and of course, working on the house as always. so we will definitely keep you posted on all of our current events. thanks for reading everyone !!!

grins,
the millers
